Description
MOTS-c is a synthetic version of a naturally occurring mitochondrial-derived peptide that plays a role in cellular energy regulation and metabolic homeostasis. It primarily activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a key cellular energy sensor, promoting glucose uptake, fatty acid oxidation, and improved mitochondrial function. Unlike GLP-1 receptor agonists, MOTS-c does not target appetite pathways and is currently being investigated for its potential effects on metabolic health, exercise performance, healthy aging, and insulin sensitivity.
